Can I Use a Selfie for My Vietnam E-Visa Application?

Yes. You may use a selfie as your portrait photo, as long as it meets the requirements. Your application will be assessed on the quality of the photo, not on how it was taken.

Photo requirements for Vietnam e-visa application:

- Recent: newly taken, not an old photo
- Size: 4 × 6 cm
- File format: JPG or JPEG, under 2 MB
- Pose: face straight toward the camera, full face visible from forehead to chin
- Background: plain white, with no shadows
- Clothing: formal clothing
- No hat, glasses, or filters, and the image must not be blurry

A selfie taken in good light against a plain white wall can meet these requirements. Selfies with shadows, a colored or cluttered background, or heavy filters are often rejected.

Taking a photo that meets the above guideline is important: your visa application may be delayed if there is a problem with the submitted photo.

Passport information page

You must also upload a separate image of your passport information page (the page with your photo and personal details).

- The entire page must be visible, including the two lines of text at the bottom (the machine-readable zone).
- The image must be sharp, with no glare, shadows, or fingers covering the text.
- Do not upload a selfie of yourself holding your passport, or a photo of a printed passport photo.

1. Upload the portrait to the "Portrait" field and the passport image to the "Passport Information Page" field.
2. Check that both files are in the correct format and under the size limit.
3. Review all details carefully. An application cannot be edited after submission, and the fee is non-refundable.

What if my photo is rejected?

If your photo is rejected, you will need to resubmit it on your current application instead of creating a new application. Make sure you check the status of your visa application frequently and update your photo when required.
